“My husband had excellent care in Hospice Isle of Man in November 2021.

When he was admitted the staff were lovely and gave me lots of information including the fact that we could bring our pet in if we wanted to. Being a tad mischievous I said “oh that’s great, we can bring the Llama in then?” There was a bit of a silence as the nurses looked at each other with a few ums and ahhs until one broke the silence with “well we did have a Shetland pony once”.  My reply, “oh that’s great, I can tie him up outside, he’ll be no trouble”. I wasn’t able to keep a straight face for long so admitted that we actually didn’t have a Llama but a very small dog, Molly, who would be delighted that she could come and sit with her daddy. The sighs of relief were palpable.

Molly visited him every day, and the staff were so good with her, even taking her for a walk so I could stay with my hubby. In my book that’s above and beyond nursing care and was so much appreciated at a tough time.

When hubby left us after 6 days of wonderful care in the Hospice, Molly had had a sleepover at her Auntie’s house while I stayed over to be with him. No one then minded Molly saying her last goodbye to her daddy in the Pilgrim room when her Auntie brought her back to us that morning. 

It was so important for my husband to maintain contact with Molly, she is after all part of the family too, and I shall be forever grateful to all the Hospice staff that he had the opportunity to do so.”
